Head of Production & Development

The Role:

Based in Adelaide, the Head of Production and Development will report to the SAFC CEO and is the Senior Executive responsible for all SAFC industry-facing programs and activities including production funding, as well as industry, talent, business and project development.

You’ll be a critical member of the SAFC’s Executive Leadership Team which also includes the CEO, Head of Operations, Head of Finance and Head of Communications and Marketing.

The primary outcomes and accountabilities are listed below along with the essential skills & experience required for the role.

Production Outcomes

1. Oversee all industry programs to support a consistent, and increasing, pipeline of South Australian screen production across film, television and video games.
2. Build the profile of the state’s screen sector and deliver screen production in SA by proactively developing strong relationships with screen industry and financing partners locally, nationally and internationally.
3. Work with partner organisations to grow the diversity, capability and capacity of the South Australian screen sector.
4. Lead an effective and motivated Production and Development team to deliver on SAFC strategic objectives.
5. Prepare reports on production and development initiatives and achievements for the CEO and Board.
6. Collect and analyse screen industry data to inform SAFC industry programs.
7. Deliver screen sector policy advice and other projects as required.

Contract, Financial Management & Administration

1. Ensure all negotiations on projects and contracts conform to SAFC Terms of Trade and program guidelines.
2. Exercise excellent judgement and good governance to manage funding and evaluation processes and related contractual processes.
3. Exercise sound financial management skills to ensure all funding and procurement commitments are in accordance with SAFC policies, and available expenditure lines.
4. Adhere to, and comply with, SAFC policies and procedures.

Stakeholder, Client and Team Relationship Management

1. Model ethical behaviour and practices consistent with SA Government Code of Ethics for Public Sector Employees.
2. Liaise effectively with local, national and international screen producers and stakeholders to deliver the Production Outcomes.
3. Maintain excellent relationships with South Australian screen stakeholders through regular communication ensuring delivery of service in line with SAFC values.
4. Maintain effective communication and, as a Senior Executive, model exceptional leadership with all SAFC departments and team members, contributing to a positive and effective work environment based on SAFC values.
5. Contribute positively to the development and implementation of SAFC Strategic and Business plans, as well as SAFC programs and operational practices.
6. Other screen industry projects and activities as required by the CEO or Board.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Extensive current experience in the financing and/or production of Australian film, television and/or video games.  
• Previous experience reporting to a Board and / or working in a senior role in State/Federal Government organisation.
• Excellent screen industry networks and current knowledge of the Australian and global screen financing landscape, across film, television and digital games.
• Demonstrated commitment to SAFC values.
• Ability to think strategically and identify opportunities to advance the SAFC’s objectives.
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• High level administrative and organisational skills including the ability to manage priorities to meet deadlines, prepare reports, and develop and manage budgets and report financial information.
• Ability to lead and manage the performance of a team to achieve the organisation’s strategic objectives.
• Ability to build effective and collaborative networks, work as part of a team, and communicate with a diverse range of people.
