Originally presented biennially in March, since 2013 the Adelaide Film Festival has been presented in October.
The youngest but most dynamic national screen event, Adelaide Film Festival was established in 2003 and was placed in Variety’s list of “50 Unmissable Film Festivals”. It is Australia’s premier film event, launching new films, art and interactive projects to national and international audiences.

Closer Productions is a multi-award winning Australian production company working across drama, documentary and television.
Our first feature drama 52 Tuesdays (Dir. Sophie Hyde) won the Directing Award for World Dramatic Competition at Sundance Film Festival 2014 and the Crystal Bear for Best Film at the Berlinale International Film Festival. It released theatrically in Australia, New Zealand, USA, UK, Germany, Spain and other territories, won the Australian Writers Guild award for best screenplay and the Australian Editors Guild award for best editing of a feature film. Our second feature drama Animals (Dir. Sophie Hyde) based on the acclaimed novel by Emma Jane Unsworth, premiered at Sundance film festival in 2019 and stars Holliday Grainger and Alia Shawkat.
Our feature documentaries include underground sensation Shut Up Little Man! An Audio Misadventure, (Dir Matthew Bate) which screened in competition at Sundance 2011 and New Directors New Films (MOMA) and was released in the US through Tribeca films, Life in Movement (dirs. Bryan Mason and Sophie Hyde) which won the prestigious Australian Foxtel Documentary Prize in 2011, the Cinedans Grand Jury and Audience Awards and Sam Klemke’s Time Machine (Dir Matthew Bate) which premiered at Sundance in 2015 and won the Artistic Vison Award at DocAviv and AWGIE Award for Best Documentary script 2015.

Collide – Joshua Tyler
Collide is screenwriter and producer Joshua Tyler. Joshua co-wrote the film Top End Wedding and Allen & Unwin children’s book Aunty’s Wedding with Miranda Tapsell. Top End Wedding premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, was distributed by Universal, became the second highest grossing Australian film of 2019 and was nominated for three AACTA awards including best film.
Joshua also starred in and co-wrote two seasons of the half-hour comedy series Plonk (Stan), and has written for several animated series including 100% Wolf and Tashi. Joshua is currently writing and producing a feature documentary and an original half hour series for Amazon Prime.

Travis Akbar is a Wongutha man based on Peramangk country in the Adelaide Hills.
From 2019 – 2022 Travis was mentored in screenwriting by Hollywood credited writer, Steph Lady and selected for AFTRS 2019 State Talent Camp and AFTRS 2020 National Talent Camp. He was a finalist for Screen Australia’s Writer’s Incubator while completing several other programs and was a finalist in the AACTA Regional Landscapes competition.
He was awarded a place in Australians in Film Untapped Initiative and was accepted into South Australia Film Corporation’s prestigious Film Lab 2 program and awarded Documentary Australia’s Centralized Fellowship. Travis also completed an SAFC supported Directors Attachment on feature film THE RED, starring Aaron Pederson and Sci-Fi Icon Michael Biehn.
He wrote and sold the feature screenplay, THE HOLY LANCE and has optioned three screenplays in CYCLONE, OUTKASTE and SPITHOOD.
In 2023 Travis directed and produced the documentary, ESKATOLOGY: BEING ME, produced the documentary TRUTH-TELLING: APOLOGY DAY 2023 and wrote, directed, and co-produced the short film TAMBO, which premiered at SXSW Sydney 2023.
Travis has written for producers in Australia, Canada, Ireland, and the USA, including Victoria Hill, producer of Paul Schrader’s Oscar nominated First Reformed.

David is a film and television editor who has collaborated with directors and producers from South Australia and interstate to deliver a diverse range of film and video content. At the heart of his work is a desire to bring the director’s vision to life using the storytelling skills he has crafted through more than a decade of experience in the film industry.
Throughout his career he has helped documentary and drama projects achieve international recognition and has himself received 4 nominations from the Australian Screen Editors Guild for his work. David has also had the opportunity to use his eye for detail and accompanying technical skills to work proficiently as an assistant and assembly editor on feature films shot both in South Australia and overseas.
