Calling all emerging and early-career South Australians First Nations screen creatives! Get hands-on training, develop your skills and forge a career in television production with the SAFC and Channel 44’s First Nations Internship Program.

This exciting skills development program offers the opportunity for two to three South Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander screen creatives to receive hands-on experience in television production at Channel 44 across creative and crew roles over the course of an 80-hour volunteer placement.

The selected interns will be mentored by experienced screen practitioners, learn production skills, and have the opportunity to create original content at Channel 44, which has an audience viewership of 65,000 within Adelaide and SA regional towns.

First launched in 2020, the SAFC C44 First Nations Internship Program has boosted the careers of many South Australian First Nations creatives by providing an opportunity to develop and produce their own original screen content, and learn the ropes of television production first-hand.

Previous participants include director/producer and SAFC First Nations Advisory Group member Ricky Hutcheson, and director/producer Keith Gilbey Warrior, who together created and produced award-winning Channel 44 program Mob Talks during their internship intake.

Other alumni of the program have gone on to work on a range of SAFC supported productions including Netflix series Territory, Warwick Thornton’s award-winning feature film The New Boy and ABC series Teenage Boss: Next Level, as well as Channel 44 documentaries The Art of Reconciliation – Telling Our Stories and series First Nations Fringe.

Applications close Friday 15 May. For more information and to apply, go to safilm.com.au/funding-programs#fnip
