SAFC and Arclight Films announce ‘Spotlight’ initiative

28 October 2016

The South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) and Arclight Films today announced the collaborative new feature film development initiative, Spotlight, designed to foster South Australian screenwriters and steer new thriller, sci-fi or action projects from the page and into production.

Arclight Films will option up to three projects from the process, all of which will be intended for theatrical distribution and the international marketplace.

The successful applicants will be receiving 2 -3 step deals to progress the development process, with funding matched by Arclight Films and the SAFC. Shortlisted applicants will participate in a three-day development workshop, including attendance at an online master class.

“South Australia has a wealth of creative talent as is evidenced by the slate of internationally recognized films and filmmakers over the past few years.” Said Arclight Films Chief Creative Officer Mike Gabrawy.  “I’m excited to embark on this thrilling, creative journey with Annabelle and her talented team at the South Australian Film Corporation. ”

Arclight Films’ international slate includes a strong line up of Australian content. Recent Australian feature films include Hotel Mumbai starring Armie Hammer and Dev Patel, Greg’s Mclean’s Jungle starring Daniel Radcliffe, Ivan Sen’s Goldstone, A Few Less Men starring Xavier Samuel and Kris Marshall, and Ben Elton’s Three Summers.

SAFC Chief Executive Officer Annabelle Sheehan said “This initiative is a significant new opportunity to develop South Australian stories that can resonate globally via Arclight Films’ impressive international reach.”

Applications for Spotlight are now open.

Guidelines and applications can be found on the SAFC website with the submission deadline of January 9, 2017.
