Bird In Hand Nest Residency recipient announced – South Australia’s Lucy Campbell LA Bound
07 May 2019
South Australian writer, director and producer Lucy Campbell was today announced as the inaugural recipient of The Bird in Hand Nest Residency, a unique eight-week, LA-based professional development programme.
A joint initiative of Australians in Film (AiF), the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) and the internationally acclaimed South Australian winery Bird in Hand, the bespoke residency will provide significant opportunities to support Ms Campbell in establishing a fully-fledged international career.
The multi-talented Lucy Campbell has written and directed a number of award-winning short films and the internationally successful online series The Big Nothing (co-creator). She co-produced the 2018 short film Konya starring Ningali Lawford and Natasha Wanganeen. Lucy has also worked as a script editor and script co-ordinator on a wide range of topline Australian TV productions including Wolf Creek S2 (Stan), Upright (Foxtel/Sky), Pine Gap (ABC TV/Netflix), The Hunting (SBS) and Wanted S3 (7 Network). Currently Lucy is developing a feature film script with a US Production company, supported by the SAFC, as well as a TV adaptation of The Big Nothing. Working with a US show runner on the adaptation, the team are currently in the process of pitching it to leading US networks and streaming providers.
AiF and the SAFC will curate a custom-made, eight-week residency program for Ms Campbell in LA, which will incorporate tailored mentoring, industry networking opportunities and access to AiF’s industry program. Supported by airfares and a living allowance, the eight-week residency will be based at Charlie’s, AiF’s LA base. Situated on the Raleigh Studios’ lot, the oldest working studio in Hollywood, Charlie’s is named after Charlie Chaplin who made films at the studios.
