Girl Asleep is adapted from the Windmill Theatre play of the same name. It is the story of Greta Driscoll, a chronically shy girl who is privately falling apart. On the cusp of turning 15, she can’t bear to leave her childhood, containing as it does all the things that give her comfort in the increasingly unstable and incomprehensible new world. Downstairs her birthday party is about to kick off and she must draw on all her strength to venture there and face the music. As the events of the night unfold, going from bad to even worse, a stranger arrives and sends Greta into a parallel place: a latent world that’s weirdly erotic, ultra violent and thoroughly ludicrous.
