South Australia sweeps 2019 AACTA Award nominations

South Australian screen productions, creatives and talent have swept the nominations at the 9th AACTA Awards, receiving 52 nominations across 29 categories.
Three of the six features nominated for Best Film were SAFC supported, including The Nightingale, which led the nominations with 15 overall, Top End Wedding, produced by Adelaide producer and SAFC CEO Kate Croser, and Adelaide Studios shot feature film Hotel Mumbai, produced by Adelaide producer Julie Ryan of Cyan Films.
Hotel Mumbai scored 13 nominations across almost every eligible category including Best Direction for Adelaide director Anthony Maras, as well as for Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design and Best Casting. Adelaide actor Tilda Cobham Hervey was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, with Dev Patel nominated for Best Lead Actor and Nazanin Boniadi for Best Lead Actress.
Adelaide Studios shot Netflix feature I Am Mother scored two nominations: Best Visual Effects and Best Supporting Actress for Hilary Swank.
In the television categories, South Australian made drama series The Hunting by Closer Productions followed up on its success as the highest rating SBS show in history with four nominations, including Best Telefeature or Mini Series, Best Direction in a Television Drama or Comedy, Best Screenplay in Television and Best Supporting Actor in a Television Drama for Richard Roxburgh.
SAFC supported productions also scored in the documentary categories: In My Blood it Runs by Closer Productions earned nominations for Best Documentary and Best Cinematography in a Documentary, while Demonic by Pia Borg, Anna Vincent and Bonnie McBride was nominated for Best Short Documentary. Martha: A Picture Story was nominated for Best Original Score in a Documentary.
Adelaide based animation and interactive design studio Monkeystack scored a nomination for Best Online Drama or Comedy for its web series Koala Man, while Adelaide artist, animator and director Greg Holfeld was nominated for Best Short Animation for Pinchpot.
Honouring Australian screen excellence across feature film, television, documentary, short form and online, the AACTA Awards will be announced across two major events at The Star Event Centre in Sydney: The Industry Luncheon on Monday 2 December, and the AACTA Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 4 December, telecast on Channel Seven with encore screenings on Foxtel.
