South Australia scores big at the 2019 SPA Awards

South Australian screen creatives triumphed at the Screen Producers Australia 2019 SPA Awards in Melbourne last night, with two nominees taking home top awards.
Adelaide’s Closer Productions, the company behind this year’s smash hit SBS drama The Hunting and feature films Animals and 52 Tuesdays,was awarded Breakthrough Business of the Year.
SAFC supported film Top End Wedding, which was produced by SAFC CEO Kate Croser and Adelaide production agency KOJO with Goalpost Pictures, was named Feature Film Production of the Year.
South Australian screen creatives and SAFC supported productions were well represented in the list of award finalists, with six nominees overall across four categories.
Closer Productions’ The Hunting was nominated for Telemovie/Mini Series Production of the Year; Lucy & DiC by We Made a Thing Studios was nominated for Online Series Production of the Year; First Day by Epic Films was nominated for Short Film Production of the Year; and Storm Boy and Animals were both nominated for Feature Film Production of the Year.
The only awards voted by screen production industry members, the annual SPA Awards honour excellence in Australian screen production, recognising the skill, accomplishment, and imagination of Australian production businesses. The awards aim to increase awareness of the role producers play in creating Australian screen stories and spotlight the importance of international trade to screen businesses.
