South Australia’s screen sector was strongly represented at SCREEN FOREVER 40 on the Gold Coast this week, with a contingent of SA producers in attendance, including nine practitioners directly supported by the SAFC.
SA creatives supported to attend the conference included Hamish Ludbrook and Jolyon Hoff of Light Sound Art Film, Kirsty Stark of Epic Films, Marion Pilowsky of Corner Table Productions, Rebecca Summerton and Sarah Wormald of Closer Productions, Ruth Estelle of Word Ninjas, Tom Phillips of We Made A Thing Studios and Stephanie Jaclyn.
The SAFC proudly produced the session The Genre Advantage: Market-Ready Content That Travels, featuring SA speakers Tom Phillips and Travis Akbar, while SA producer Kirsty Stark moderated the session Producer Skillset 2030: Building a Strategic, Scalable and Sustainable Screen Business.
Emerging SA producer Suriyna Sivashanker picked up two accolades at the Screen Producers Australia (SPA) Awards for her short film I’m The Most Racist Person I Know, written and directed by SA’s Leela Varghese. Produced through The Mercury’s Quicksilver short film production fund with support from the SAFC, the film won both Short Film Production of the Year and the Screen Diversity and Inclusion Network (SDIN) Award.
SAFC Head of Production Leanne Saunders and SAFC Talent Development Manager Jessica Giacco also attended SCREEN FOREVER on behalf of the SAFC, with Leanne speaking on the panel of screen agency representatives for Screen Agency Spotlight.
