South Australian Producers Helen Leake AM and Gena Ashwell from Dancing Road Productions have confirmed the announcement from the prestigious Sitges Film Festival that Carnifex, directed by Sean Lahiff, is in official selection and where it will have its world premiere. This will be immediately followed by the film’s Australian premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival October 17 – 30 2022. The Adelaide Film Festival investment fund chose Carnifex as one of its key projects for 2022.

Developed from an original concept by Dancing Road, Carnifex is an environmental horror/thriller with a talented cast that features Alexandra Park (Ben is Back/The Royals), Sisi Stringer (Children of the Corn/Mortal Kombat) and Harry Greenwood (Hacksaw Ridge/Wakefield) with a cameo by one of Australia’s best-loved actors, Darren Gilshenan.

As Australia recovers from unprecedented bushfires, Bailey (Alexandra Park) an aspiring documentary maker joins conservationists Grace (Sisi Stringer) and Ben (Harry Greenwood) as they travel deep into the Australian outback to track and record the animals left displaced and devastated by the fires. As night falls, the well-equipped trio discover a terrifying species, but quickly become the ones being tracked.

“Sitges is the perfect festival to launch Carnifex onto a global stage and we are excited to be invited to hold our world premiere in Spain as part of the festival. To then immediately follow with our Australian premiere as part of the Adelaide Film Festival in South Australia where the film was conceived and made is absolutely brilliant”.

Carnifex was majority funded through private investment and the producer offset administered by Screen Australia, with grant funding through the South Australian Film Corporation production grant and PDV rebate, the Adelaide Film Festival Fund provided equity investment and Arclight Films are handling world-rights to the film (excluding Australia and New Zealand).
