South Australia’s screen sector talent and capability have been showcased at both Federal and State levels in recent weeks, with the SAFC both hosting and participating in two industry engagement events.

On Tuesday the SAFC was pleased to welcome Minister for Trade and Tourism Senator Don Farrell, Senator Charlotte Walker and SA Assistant Minister for Arts Sarah Andrews to Adelaide Studios for a tour of the facilities, to learn about SA’s film and television production industry.

Led by Ausfilm CEO Kate Marks, and joined by Ausfilm Board member and KOJO CEO Dale Roberts and CreateSA Executive Director Clare Mockler, the delegation met with a cross-section of local industry members working throughout the facilities, providing an opportunity to highlight the depth of talent, capability and innovation across the sector.

The tour took in presentations by Steel Springs Pictures producer Peter Lawson and Head of Production Bonnie McBride, currently in post-production on series Kill Jackie; director Sean Lahiff and producer Kristian Moliere of Triptych Pictures, currently editing Wolf Creek Legacy, and Michael Darren of Artisan Post Group, currently in post-production on forthcoming film Pressure from SA writer/director Anthony Maras.

Windmill Productions director Rosemary Myers and producer Kaye Weeks talked through their pre-planning for the upcoming reboot of ABC’s Bananas in Pyjamas, set to be filmed in the Adelaide Studios sound stages, while producer Lilla Berry took time out of production on her debut feature drama The Debt to speak to the group about her career as part of SA’s First Nations screen sector.

Last month SAFC Acting Video Game Executive Neil Rennison represented the state’s video game development sector at the Parliamentary Friends of the Australian Video Games Industry event held at Parliament House, Canberra.

Hosted by the Interactive Games & Entertainment Association (IGEA), the event brings together members of Federal Parliament, Australian game developers, screen agencies and other industry representatives to celebrate the creative achievements of the local game development sector and learn more about the Australian video game industry. IGEA also presented their latest research from Bond University about people who play video games, and their latest report on the Australian video game development industry.

SA’s Jon Soong, CEO of game development studio Makers Empire, was also in attendance to demonstrate his studio’s latest developments.
