SAFC celebrates The Musical Mind World Premiere with Scott Hicks and David Helfgott

The South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) hosted a special event as part of the Adelaide Film Festival to celebrate the world premiere of new South Australian made and SAFC supported feature documentary film The Musical Mind: A Portrait in Process, with guests of honour director Scott Hicks, producers Kerry Heysen AM and Jett Heysen-Hicks and iconic Australian musician and star of the film David Helfgott .

The Musical Mind offers a glimpse into the private worlds and elite musical processes of four superstar musicians – Ben Folds, Daniel Johns, David Helfgott and Simon Tedeschi – brought together through their connection with Academy Award winning SAFC supported 1996 film Shine and its South Australian director Hicks.

The SAFC’s special VIP function was held at Good Gilbert Wine Bar in Goodwood ahead of the film’s world premiere at the Capri Theatre on Friday 27 October. The film was supported by the SAFC and the Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund.

Along with director Hicks and producers Heysen and Heysen-Hicks, the SAFC was delighted to host other members of the film’s creative team including executive producers David Chiem of May30 Entertainment and Mikael Borglund of Beyond Productions.

Other special guests included Lord Mayor Dr Jane Lomax-Smith AM, AFF Board Chair Anton Andreacchio, AFF CEO and Creative Director Mat Kesting, Screen Australia Board member Helen Leake AM, Screen Australia Documentary Investment and Development Manager Sally Chesher, Mercury Chair Peter Hanlon, and SAFC Board Members Lauren Hillman and Angela Heesom, as well as SAFC CEO Kate Croser.

Attendees also included members of SA’s screen sector represented on the 2023 AFF program including producers Bonnie McBride and Anna Vincent and director Luke Rynderman (Speedway), producer Julie Ryan (Late Night with the Devil), producer Hamish Gibbs Ludbrook and director/writer/producer Jolyon Hoff (You Should Have Been Here Yesterday), producer Georgia Humphreys and producer/director Marion Pilowsky (Isla’s Way), and producer Patrick Graham and director Matthew Thorne (Marungka Tjalatjunu – Dipped in Black).

The Musical Mind is in cinemas from 23 November.
