SAFC becomes new home of the Screen Diversity Inclusion Network (SDIN) with new SDIN Project Officer
28 July 2022
The SAFC has cemented its commitment to supporting and growing diversity in the screen industry by officially commencing as the new host organisation for the Screen Diversity and Inclusion Network (SDIN) this month, with Kata Fodor appointed SDIN Project Officer.
Previously hosted by the Australian Film and Television Radio School (AFTRS) since its inception in 2017, the SDIN is a national network of broadcasters, screen funding agencies, business associations, guilds and industry-aligned education and training organisations who have committed to work together towards a more inclusive and diverse screen industry.
Members include all Australian broadcasters and state and national screen agencies as well as FreeTV and AFTRS.
The SAFC and SDIN are pleased to announce the appointment of Kata Fodor as new SDIN Project Officer. Based at the SAFC’s Adelaide Studios, Kata will be the first point of contact for SDIN members and stakeholders nationwide, and provide project and administrative support to the SDIN Chairs and membership.
Coming to Australia from Hungary in 2019, Kata has experience in project management, administration and screen production, having worked on several international and Australian film and television productions across different crew departments. Kata has also worked as Project Support Officer for the SA Premier’s Reading Challenge, and has previously worked for the SAFC as a Program Coordinator and Executive Assistant.
As a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) person herself, Kata is passionate about encouraging and improving diversity in the screen industry, and addressing systemic issues faced by under-represented communities in the screen sector. Kata takes over from outgoing Project Officer Jade Girvan of AFTRS who is leaving the role at the end of July.
SDIN Co-Chairs Kelrick Martin, Head of Indigenous at ABC TV and Michelle Cheng, Content Industry Diversity Manager at SBS welcomed Kata to the organisation.
“We’re delighted to welcome Kata to the SDIN and look forward to working with her to drive greater inclusion in the Australian TV and film industry. We also thank outgoing Project Officer Jade Girvan, for her dedication, passion and hard work for the SDIN since its inception and wish her all the best for the future,” they said.
SAFC CEO Kate Croser also welcomed Kata to the agency.
“The SAFC is pleased to cement its commitment to supporting and growing diversity in the screen industry by becoming the new host organisation for the SDIN, and we are delighted to welcome Kata as our new SDIN Project Officer. We look forward to working with Kata and the SDIN to boost and encourage representation and participation of under-represented communities in the Australian screen industry.”
