The South Australian Film Corporation is delighted to announce the appointment of James O’Connor as SAFC Game Development Executive.

James joins the SAFC with extensive industry experience, having worked in the games sector for most of his adult life as a critic, journalist, academic and developer, most recently serving as Project Narrative Lead at SA games studio company Mighty Kingdom. In 2016 he completed a Master’s thesis on player-driven narrative experiences and in 2023 was awarded Best Games Reviewer at the Samsung IT Journalism Awards, otherwise known as The Lizzies.

As SAFC Game Development Executive James will work closely with the Production and Development team to facilitate the growth of the state’s game development sector, managing administration of the SA Video Game Development (VGD) Rebate and using his extensive industry experience and connections within the local, national and international game development community to leverage opportunities for the sector.

James’ appointment reflects the SAFC’s ongoing commitment to supporting and growing South Australia’s game development sector, following on from the addition of games industry veteran Clara Reeves to the SAFC Board in 2023.

SAFC CEO Kate Croser said: “We are delighted to welcome James O’Connor to the SAFC as our new Game Development Executive. He brings a deep knowledge of the industry in South Australia and globally, and we are confident he will bring great value to this role supporting the game development sector in South Australia.”

James starts in his role on Monday 6 May, 2024. For more information on how the SAFC supports SA’s game development industry, go to safilm.com.au/games
