South Australian made science fiction thriller Monolith has screened at festivals all over the world since its world premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival (AFF) in October 2022 – and now it’s coming to a cinema near you!

From the South Australian creative team of writer Lucy Campbell, director Matt Vesely and producer Bettina Hamilton, Monolith is the first feature film to come out of the Film Lab: New Voices feature film skills development program, an initiative co-funded by the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC), AFF and Screen Australia which sees three South Australian filmmaking teams mentored through a 12-month skills development program to develop their first low-budget feature film script.

Monolith had its international premiere at SXSW in Austin, Texas earlier this year, where it was touted by Variety as one of the festival’s “buzziest” films, and has been wowing audiences across the globe at an impressive line-up of festivals including the Overlook Film Festival 2023 (USA); Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival 2023; Fantasy FilmFest 2023 (Germany); Gold Coast Film Festival 2023; Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival 2023 (South Korea); Melbourne International Film Festival 2023; CinefestOz 2023; FrightFest London 2023; Octopus Film Festival 2023 (Poland); and Sitges 2023 (Spain).

This month the film will have its NSW premiere as part of SXSW Sydney, where it’s on the program alongside SA made and SAFC supported feature film The Royal Hotel and First Nations made short films Black Time, White Time, Tambo and The Getaway.

Monolith is also now hitting cinemas around Australia – previews begin on 19 October and screenings from 26 October. Click here to find a cinema session near you. The following SA screenings include a special Q&A with the creative team:
