South Australia is in the spotlight for American audiences again, with two SAFC supported feature films securing US video on demand (VOD) release dates.

South Australian filmed and produced comedy The Flip Side is set to release in the US on DVD and VOD on 9 June, 2020 after being acquired by Freestyle Digital Media, Variety reports.

Set in Adelaide, the rom-com directed, written and produced by South Australian filmmaker Marion Pilowsky stars Emily Taheny (Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell) as a struggling restaurateur who has her life thrown into chaos when her former lover, a British movie star played by Eddie Izzard (Ocean’s Thirteen, Hannibal, My Super Ex-Girlfriend), comes back into her life and seduces her all over again.

The Flip Side is already available to stream in Australia on Foxtel, Google Play and Youtube – find out more.

And South Australian filmed and produced horror-thriller Awoken is now available on all major US VOD platforms after being released by Vertical Entertainment on 8 May.

From South Australian first time writer/director Daniel J. Phillips, the film follows a young medical student who attempts to cure her brother from a terminal sleep illness called Fatal Familial Insomnia, where you are unable to sleep until you die. But on her quest to help him, a more sinister reason for his condition is revealed.

Awoken stars Erik Thomson (The Black Balloon, Packed to the Rafters), Sara West (Top End Wedding, Peter Allen: Not the Boy Next Door), Benson Jack Anthony (800 Words, Cleverman), Matt Crook (Top End Wedding, One-Eyed Girl) and Amelia Douglass (Between Two Worlds). It was written by Alan Grace and Daniel J. Phillips and produced by Craig McMahon, Charles Billeh, John Tedesco and Daniel J. Phillips.

Umbrella Entertainment are handling all Australian distribution and will release the film in the latter half of 2020, with a date to be announced.
