Philippou brothers’ latest SA horror Bring Her Back hits cinemas
22 May 2025

Brace yourself! New South Australian horror Bring Her Back from Adelaide filmmaking twin brothers Danny and Michael Philippou is set to hit Australian cinemas on Thursday, 29 May and US cinemas on 30 May, with early reviews promising a downright terrifying watch.
Named one of 2025’s most anticipated films by IndieWire and Rotten Tomatoes, Bring Her Back sees writer/directors Danny and Michael Philippou team up once more with producers Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton of Causeway Films, backed by A24 and supported by the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC). The film was co-written by South Australian writer Bill Hinzman, with a world-class South Australian crew working behind the scenes across production and post-production.
Filmed in South Australia and at the SAFC’s Adelaide Studios last year, Bring Her Back is the second feature film for the SA writer/director brothers after 2023 smash hit Talk to Me, also supported by the SAFC and the Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund, which took more than $140 million at the global box office to become A24’s highest grossing horror ever.
Bring Her Back sees two-time Academy Award nominee Sally Hawkins star alongside Billy Barratt, Jonah Wren-Phillips and newcomer Sora Wong in what fans are already calling “one of the most original horror films I’ve seen in years”.
Exclusive preview screenings earlier this month have seen rave reviews, with critics full of praise for Bring Her Back’s emotional nuance, turning “familiar trauma-based horror into a traumatic experience” (the AVClub) and creating a “domestic nightmare fever dream” (Variety).
Fans of the Philippous’ hit debut feature Talk To Me can also now see the film’s infamous hand for themselves right here in Adelaide!
The Adelaide Studios display of SA screen memorabilia now proudly features one of the actual prop hands used in the film, courtesy of Causeway Films. Drop in to the Adelaide Studios reception foyer during business hours to see the display – or come along to the next SA Screen Industry Coffee Networking Morning on Tuesday 3 June, 2025.
