Film Lab: New Voices Film Screenings and Meet Ups

Calling all up-and-coming South Australian writers, directors and producers: learn about low budget filmmaking and find a team to apply for Film Lab: New Voices!
Co-funded by the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC), Adelaide Film Festival and Screen Australia, the Film Lab: New Voices program is once again open for applications, offering three South Australian filmmaking teams the chance to develop their first low-budget feature through a 12-month development program. At the completion of the Lab, one team will be selected to receive $600,000 in screen production grant funding with their film to premiere the Adelaide Film Festival in 2026.
All prospective Film Lab applicants are encouraged to attend at least one of the screening events below.

The Infinite Man – film screening plus Q&A with producer Sandy Cameron
Date: Thursday 2 November, 2023
Time: 6.00pm for 6.30pm screening start
Location: The Mercury Cinema, 13 Morphett Street, Adelaide

See the film, learn more about low budget filmmaking and enjoy some refreshments and networking. This is also an opportunity for creatives to connect and form writer/director/producer teams for Film Lab: New Voices.
The Infinite Man is one of several critically acclaimed films to come out of the SAFC’s original FilmLab program which ran from 2009 to 2012, along with Shut Up Little Man and 52 Tuesdays. It was selected to screen in the Visions program at SXSW in 2014, won the Silver Raven Jury Prize at the Brussels International Festival of Fantasy and the New Flesh (Best First Film) Award at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival and was nominated for AACTA, SPA and Australian Film Critics Association Awards. Written and directed by Hugh Sullivan, and produced by Kate Croser and Sandy Cameron.

High-concept science fiction thriller Monolith, from the creative team of writer Lucy Campbell, director Matt Vesely and producer Bettina Hamilton, is the first film to come out of the Film Lab: New Voices program. Starring Australian rising talent Lily Sullivan, it was selected for top US indie film festival SXSW, South Korea’s Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival and London’s FrightFest following its world premiere at Adelaide Film Festival 2022. Within Australia, Monolith was one of four nominees for the $100,000 CinefestOz Film Prize, screened at the Gold Coast Film Festival and was called one of “ten must-see films” at the Melbourne International Film Festival by industry publication ScreenHub. Internationally the film has sold into North America and the UK and has already released in NZ.
