EOIs OPEN NOW: Adelaide Film Festival Kaurna Welcome to Country
04 September 2020
Calling all emerging South Australian First Nations filmmakers: have your work screened at the 2020 Adelaide Film Festival (AFF) and receive paid training and mentoring as part of a new AFF project, presented in partnership with the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) and the City of Adelaide.
Taking place 14 to 25 October 2020, AFF is South Australia’s premier film event. In 2018 the festival screened more than 200 bold and exciting drama, documentary, short and VR film projects to an audience of more than 65,000 people.
This year AFF has explored new ways to engage with their audiences and strengthen cultural connection and understanding.
Under this new project, emerging South Australian First Nations filmmakers will receive paid training and mentoring, from pre-production through to delivery, to create a one minute Kaurna Welcome to Country video that will be screened before every film at the 2020 Adelaide Film Festival.
Applications will be assessed by a panel made up of representatives from AFF and the SAFC. First Nations staff from the City of Adelaide, including from the City of Adelaide’s Reconciliation Committee, will provide cultural protocol advice throughout the project.
The project aims to produce additional editions in 2021, including the same successful applicants from this round, with scope to grow the length and content of the work. In addition to being led by First Nations staff at the SAFC and the City of Adelaide, AFF is working with the Kaurna Yerta Aboriginal Corporation to deliver this project.
