The South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) and Sony Pictures Australia rolled out the red carpet last night for the Adelaide premiere of Bring Her Back, the exciting new horror from SA filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou, ahead of its theatrical release on Thursday, 29 May.

The hotly anticipated premiere event saw a full house at Adelaide’s historic Capri Cinema, with special guests including The Hon Louise Miller-Frost MP; the Right Honourable Lord Mayor Dr Jane Lomax Smith AM; SAFC Chair The Hon Mike Rann AC, members of the SAFC Board and SAFC CEO Kate Croser; members of the SAFC Screen Circle; members of the Adelaide Film Festival Board and Film Club; family and friends of filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou and members of the South Australian screen industry, including some of the film’s cast and crew.

While Danny and Michael attended the film’s simultaneous premiere in Sydney, they created a special video message just for the Adelaide audience affirming their love for making films in South Australia and thanking the crowd for their support of South Australian voices.

Bring Her Back is the second feature film from the Philippou brothers following their international smash hit Talk to Me, which took more than $140 million at the global box office in 2023 to become A24’s highest grossing horror film.

Co-written by Danny and SA writer Bill Hinzman, Bring Her Back sees the twins once again working with producers Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton of Causeway Films, with the film again backed by A24 and supported by the SAFC.

The film was not only helmed by South Australians, but powered by them, with a world-class South Australian crew working behind the scenes across production across Adelaide and at the SAFC’s Adelaide Studios, and post-production led by SA’s KOJO Studios and supported by the SAFC’s PDV rebate.

Bring Her Back stars two-time Academy Award nominee Sally Hawkins alongside Billy BarrattJonah Wren-Phillips and newcomer Sora Wong and currently boasts a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Bring Her Back premieres in Australian cinemas on Thursday, 29 May and in US cinemas on Friday, 30 May.
