Artist Residency for Adelaide Studios

03 September 2018

The South Australian Film Corporation and Adelaide Studios have announced a new partnership with SALA (South Australian Living Artists) Festival, the Anne & Gordon Samstag Museum of Art with funding from Arts South Australia and Unitcare Services to support an Artist Residency at Adelaide Studios to create art of the moving image.

Launched at the SALA Festival Finissage Party, the Adelaide Studios Artist Residency will see a moving image artist welcomed into the central hub of screen practitioners based at Adelaide Studios, provided with $50,000 cash, a creative workspace and access to Adelaide Studios’ state-of-the-art studios, grading and sound post facilities to make art of the moving image.

The opportunity is targeted to South Australian artists already working with moving image, and visual artists, screen practitioners, animators and games developers interested in exploring the cross-overs of their practice and making work for the screen in an exhibition context.

The work created by the selected Adelaide Studios Artist Residency for 2019 will have its world premiere screening season at Adelaide Studios Screening Theatre during the SALA Festival in August next year. From 2020, the exhibiting partner will be the Anne & Gordon Samstag Museum of Art.

SAFC Chief Executive Courtney Gibson said “This program enables artists working in the medium of moving image to deliver a single work or suite of works with significant cash and free access to the Adelaide Studios facilities, including the only Dolby 7.1 mixing theatre in Australia, along with our sound stages, foley and recording suites. The idea is to enable the creation of bold new screen-based artwork, finished to the highest standard, for screening within SALA, and at film and art festivals around Australia and across the world.”
