LIVESTREAM: Appropriate Conversation with Desiree Akhavan & Sophie Hyde

Join acclaimed writer/director/actor Desiree Akhavan and homegrown favourite Sophie Hyde from Closer Productions as they dive deep into the art of filmmaking in an intimate and exploratory in-conversation, broadcast live and free via Instagram livestream.

Join Desiree as she discusses the differences between working in film and TV, acting and directing, how to develop projects you care about and how to stay true to your personal vision.

Desiree Akhavan is an American writer, director and actor working in indie film and TV and the daughter of Iranian parents. Her breakout feature Appropriate Behavior (in which she also stars) premiered at Sundance and is a queer cult classic. Her second feature The Miseducation of Cameron Post, won the Grand Jury Prize Dramatic at Sundance. Her TV series The Bisexual which she created, wrote, directed and starred in, was made for Channel 4 in 2018 (and currently screening on Stan in Australia). She has also acted in a number of other works including Lena Dunham’s Girls in a role Lena wrote for her.

Desiree will be joined by her friend and peer, Adelaide based Sophie Hyde, director of feature films Animals and 52 Tuesdays and creator of TV series’ F*king Adelaide and The Hunting.

This event is presented by the Australian Directors’ Guild and the SAFC, with Screen Australia, Film Victoria, The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology & the Australian Film Television and Radio School.
