Call for EOIs: Make your pitch stick with Australians in Film’s Logline Workshop

Your logline is often the first, and sometimes only, chance to convince someone your story is worth reading. So how do you make it stick?

South Australian writers can get the inside edge at the Australians in Film (AiF) Insider Sessions – Logline Workshop: The Sticky Concept (23 September, online) – with five fully subsidised passes on offer from the the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC).

Join acclaimed screenwriter Ellen Shanman, co-writer of upcoming Amazon feature Voltron, starring Henry Cavill and Sterling K. Brown, for this energetic, highly interactive 90-minute online workshop on turning your idea into a logline with real commercial impact. Through live examples, Ellen will help you uncover the “engine” of your story, pressure-test the strength of your concept and explore the critical difference between a compelling situation and a truly marketable story.

PLUS – attendees are invited to submit their loglines during registration for the chance to have them workshopped by Ellen live during the session, giving everyone the opportunity to learn from the process (optional).

Ellen’s credits include Gallagher Girls for Paramount, The Division for Netflix and Nothing Daunted for Black Label Media. She also co-wrote the live-action adaptation of Voltron for Amazon MGM Studios, set for release in 2027.

This 90-minute online session will be held Wednesday, 23 September at 9.30am ACST. Practitioners interested in one of the SAFC’s five subsidised course registrations are invited to submit an EOI via the SAFC’s SmartyGrants portal by 9.00am ACST on Monday 14 September. Eligibility

To be eligible for an SAFC subsidised pass to this workshop, you must:

Be a South Australian resident and meet the general eligibility requirements in the SAFC Terms of Trade
Have a genuine and demonstrated interest and experience in pursuing a career in the screen industry
Be available to attend the session live online on Wednesday, September 23, from 9.30 am – 11.00 am ACST

How to submit your EOI

Submit your EOI through the SAFC’s online grant portal: safilm.smartygrants.com.au

EOIs will be assessed by the SAFC based on the strength of the EOI, suitability for the workshop and identified outcomes to be achieved.

Successful recipients will be notified by Thursday, 17 September.
