18 February 2026

Production is underway on the third season of much-loved ABC narrative comedy Austin in South Australia, bringing a distinctly SA flavour to the next chapter of Austin’s life, while injecting millions into the local economy and creating jobs for hundreds of SA cast, crew and service providers.

Co-produced by Michelle Hardy, with episodes directed by Erin White, the production is anticipated to spend more than $3 million in the State, employing 13 South Australian Heads of Department (HODs), 79 SA crew, and 180 extras in addition to the many businesses and services engaged.

Austin series 3 is the latest production to be supported through the SAFC’s ongoing screen production partnership with Australia’s national broadcaster, following the Rebecca Summerton-produced Easy Tiger production of Chris Hammer’s Treasure & Dirt, Closer Productions’ critically acclaimed factual series Eat the Invaders, period drama series Ladies in Black, children’s series Beep and Mort S2 and Teenage Boss, and comedy Gold Diggers.
Minister for the Arts Andrea Michaels MP said: “We are thrilled that South Australia is the filming location for the third season of Austin, and I can’t think of a better backdrop for Austin’s wedding than the Adelaide Hills. In the new season, Austin prepares for his wedding to Haley while navigating the unfamiliar world of in-laws and rising expectations. Julian and Ingrid are enjoying a friendly divorce – complicated by Ingrid’s relationship with a new man and the pressure to develop a new book series alongside the Big Bear TV show. When the wedding takes everyone to Haley’s parents’ farm in rural Australia, tensions rise and as the big day approaches, doubts creep in. Austin and Haley begin to question their future, while Julian and Ingrid rethink their divorce – prompting the season’s central question: what makes a good marriage?
