Shania Richards

Shania Richards is a proud Wongutha, Mirning, Barngarla, Ngadju, and Gubrun woman with German and British ancestry, based in regional South Australia. She is a multidisciplinary storyteller and filmmaker—author, illustrator, visual artist, performer, and cultural consultant—and founder of Nerdy Indigenous Art. A 2018 graduate of WAAPA, her work spans filmmaking, screenwriting, visual arts, performance, bilingual children’s books, poetry, zines, and emerging technologies including VR game development. Shania’s practice centres First Nations storytelling, cultural integrity, youth voice, mental health, and suicide prevention. She brings lived experience and cultural authority to creative and advisory spaces. Shania is an elected member of the Port Lincoln City Council, the youngest in its history, and previously served as South Australia’s 27th Youth Governor in 2021.
