The first feature film produced by the newly created South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC), the critically acclaimed Sunday Too Far Away heralded an auspicious start for the screen industry in South Australia and indeed the nation. Starring legendary Australian actor Jack Thompson, the box office hit about the struggles of itinerant sheep shearers in the Outback in the 1950s spearheaded what came to be known as the “Australian New Wave” of cinema and established the SAFC as a nationally acknowledged model for emulation by other states.
