Learn the basics of location scouting with ALMG’s Scouting Intensive 101

Are you interested in working in the Locations Department in the screen industry, but don’t know where to start? Perhaps you’re already working in screen, and looking to improve your location scouting techniques?

The SAFC is pleased to offer five fully subsidised places for South Australian aspiring or emerging location department crew for the Australian Location Managers Guild (ALMG) Scouting Intensive 101 – a two-day online intensive course designed to give participants insights and expert advice into the profession of Location Management.

Led by experienced Location Managers Roger Paul (Good Cop/Bad Cop) and Jacob Livermore (Deadloch), students will participate in two days of online training paired with practical scouting exercises and the opportunity to have their work reviewed. Students will learn about photography techniques, anchor versus ancillary locations, how to work with script breakdowns and more.

At the end of the course students will receive a certificate of completion and will be eligible to obtain an ALMG Emerging Crew Membership at a discounted rate. Those looking for work with professional Location Managers can be listed on the notice board in the ALMG member portal.

Practitioners interested in one of the SAFC’s five subsidised course registrations are invited to submit an EOI via the SAFC’s SmartyGrants portal by 11.59 pm on Friday 21 August. Please see below for eligibility and assessment.

Eligibility

Practitioners submitting an EOI must:

Be a South Australian resident and meet the general eligibility requirements in the SAFC Terms of Trade
Have a genuine and demonstrated interest in working in the Locations Department
Be available to attend the two course sessions live online:
- Saturday 5 September, 9.30 am – 3.30 pm ACST
- Saturday 12 September, 9.30 am – 3.30 pm ACST
Be able to complete the location scouting exercises in the week between sessions

How to submit your EOI

Submit your EOI through the SAFC’s online grant portal: safilm.smartygrants.com.au

EOIs will be assessed by the SAFC based on the strength of the EOI, participant suitability for the course and identified outcomes to be achieved.

EOIs for the ALMG Location Intensive 101 close at 11.59 pm Friday, 21 August.

Selected participants will be notified by Friday, 28 August.
