SA welcomes extension to the Screen Location Incentive

17 July 2020

The Marshall Liberal Government has welcomed the announcement of a $400 million extension to the Screen Location Incentive by the Morrison Government today.

“Today’s announcement is great news for jobs in the screen sector – we know for every two jobs created in the screen industry, another job is supported elsewhere in the economy, in hospitality, travel, accommodation and trades,” Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni said.

“South Australia has increased its investment in high value international production in recent years, with productions including the state’s biggest ever screen production Mortal Kombat demonstrating the state’s capacity to deliver.

“Mortal Kombat has provided a strong pipeline of work through the entire SA screen sector, including significant work for our world class Post Production, Digital and Visual Effect companies.

“The Federal Location Incentive has great benefits for local jobs for our crews, vendors and the thriving PDV sector, with high value international productions not only providing employment but also priceless training and upskilling opportunities.”

The South Australian Film Corporation has also helped to develop a new set of national working guidelines for COVID-19 safe screen production which provide practical guidance and support for Australian screen businesses to enable screen production to resume across Australia.

“With South Australia one of the safest places in the world right now, and one of the first places in the world to resume production, the state is ideally placed to take a slice of this new fund in the post-COVID recovery,” Minister Pisoni said.

CEO of the South Australian Film Corporation Kate Croser said: “Today’s announcement from the Federal Government provides an excellent boost to the important work we have been doing to support South Australia’s production sector.

“South Australia is one of the first places in the world to restart new screen production, with new ABC comedy Aftertaste from Closer Productions currently in pre-production at Adelaide Studios.

“We know there is significant amount of footloose production around the world looking for a new home, estimated by Ausfilm to be worth more than $900 million, and South Australia is perfectly positioned to attract it to our State.

“This extension of the Federal Location Incentive program will greatly assist South Australia to bid for that production and position our Screen Sector strongly to contribute to the economic recovery of our State post-COVID.”
