Director: Heather Croall and Milo Hyde
'the desert surfers' explores the myths and legends of a hard core surfing community in the Australian outback.
The surfers discovered the isolated wave in the 1960's and have never left the place. The film has some brilliant super 8 footage of them driving to Cactus in the 60's. Stories about locals like "Moose the Mayor" and "Sharkbait" continue to reinforce the myths of this outback group of surfers and this documentary shows that out in the desert fact can indeed be stranger than fiction.
In the making of the 'the desert surfers', the violent reputation of the Cactus locals sends the cameraman into a state of paranoia. This documentary is as much about madness in the desert as it is about the surfie legends of Cactus Beach.
