Co-Productions

The SAFC encourages co-productions between Australian filmmakers and producers from other countries.

Australia currently has co-production treaties with Canada, China, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Singapore and the United Kingdom, and Memoranda of Understanding with France and New Zealand.
Treaty negotiations are currently underway with South Africa.

The benefits of official co-production status include:

  • Eligibility for Australian finance through investment from Screen Australia
  • Qualification for Australian television content quota points.

Eligible productions

Eligible productions include feature films, television drama, documentaries and animation.

Applying for co-production status

Screen Australia administers the Co-Production program and determines official co-production status. Co-production guidelines and copies of Co-Production Treaties and MOUs are available from the Screen Australia website here. The SAFC also welcomes enquiries.
