Best of Melbourne Queer Film Festival hits Adelaide
Friday 30 March at The Mercury Cinema – One Night Only!
This March The Mercury, in partnership with the Melbourne Queer Film Festival and Adelaide’s Feast Festival, presents the Best of Melbourne Queer Film Festival, with the screening of two Adelaide premieres: Cloudburst and August.
One of the largest queer film festivals in the world, the Melbourne Queer Film Festival screens challenging and entertaining queer-themed films. This is the first time the festival has travelled to Adelaide for many years.
The Mercury’s exhibition manager Mathew Kesting says “This is a brilliant opportunity to showcase two of the best queer themed films from 2011. If this year is a success we look forward to expanding the festival next year.”
Cloudburst is the award winning feature by Canadian filmmaker Thom Fitzgerald. This funny, emotionally engaging and romantic road movie features the extraordinary talents of Olympia Dukakis (Steel Magnolias, Moonstruck) and Brenda Fricker (My Left Foot, A Time To Kill) as lesbian couple who escape from their nursing home and head towards Canada to get married.
August (dir. Eldar Rappaport, USA) stars Australian actor Murray Bartlett, in a smouldering love triangle that explores trust, love and lust. August is in equal measures hilarious, sad and incisively witty.
Both films have won several awards at International Queer Film Festivals and had sold out sessions at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival. Don’t miss your opportunity to see the South Australian premieres of these brilliant films, at the Mercury for one night only.
