Congratulations to Producers Nick Crowther, Martin Potter and Anna Grieve working with filmmakers in residence Jeni Lee and Sieh Mchawala on their SAFC funded project, Big Stories, Small Towns, which was recently announced as a finalist in the SXSW Interactive Awards. What a monumental achievement for this team!

Big Stories, Small Towns is a collaborative, multiplatform documentary that gathers local stories for a global audience. Big Stories makes stories with not about communities, with the idea of assisting people to use digital media to tell meaningful stories from their lives. This is a unique model of community engagement and participation through media - an opportunity for the rich repository of local stories found in and around small towns to be shared with global impact.

In Big Stories 1 completed early 2009, award-winning documentary makers Jeni Lee and Sieh Mchawala lived in Port Augusta, South Australia for three months - making films with the locals to create an inspiring portrait of the town. The project was shaped through extensive consultation and the resulting very personal and heart-warming stories revealed what the community knows as its hidden truths.

Big Stories 2 focuses on two South Australian communities; Murray Bridge and Raukkan and a microsite featuring Ban Lung in Ratanakiri Province in Cambodia. The project was funded by the SAFC, in association with the Media Resource Centre, Screen Australia and Country Arts SA.

The SXSW Interactive Awards uncovers the best new digital work, from mobile and tablet apps to websites to kiosks and installations and beyond, while celebrating those who are building tomorrow's online trends.

The winners will be revealed at the 15th Annual SXSW Interactive Awards Ceremony presented by HP on Tuesday evening, March 13 at the Hilton Austin Texas USA.
